The average shower head delivers 5 gallons of water per minute (gpm) while a low flow model will typically deliver 2.5 gpm. Low-flow shower heads work by constricting the flow of water out of the nozzle and mixing more air into the water stream which results in the lower water usage. That means your water usage and bill will both be lower.

You can find low-flow shower heads at any major hardware store like Ace Hardware, Home Depot or Lowes. Custom models can be found online and typically cost from $10 to $100 depending on the manufacturer and style.
